Spiritual Practices: Breath prayer
Overview
When Samuel saw Eliab, Jesse's oldest son, he immediately thought that this was the man God had chosen to lead Israel. Eliab was tall and strong. His appearance was striking. He may have had a charismatic smile and seemed to be a person that everyone would willingly follow. Samuel may have even be reaching for the anointing oil when God intervenes. God changes Samuel's perspective. He tells him not to look at Eliab's stature, muscles, smile, or winning personality. As people we tend to look at these things, but God looks at the condition and motivation of our hearts. God didn't need the biggest and the strongest to be king, he needed the one with the best heart.
We tend to focus on outward things, like Samuel did. God is more concerned about our hearts. That is where the real change needs to happen. That is what this breath prayer is about.
Prayer
Abba Father, change my heart.
