Spiritual Practices: Breath Prayer
Overview
Paul uses a lot of imagery and metaphor in this passage. He talks about being awake or asleep, and being children of the light and not of the darkness. His emphasis is on staying alert and being ready for the second coming of Jesus. The key to the passage and the point behind his metaphors and imagery is that we should live with him (verse 10). This idea of life in God or life with God is our ultimate hope, both in this world and after it. Our life is best, we are at our best and most fulfilled, when we are experiencing life with God. As we endeavor to live moment by moment in the awareness of and in step with God, we begin to experience life with him in our present world and we are prepared to spend eternity with him after it. That is what this breath prayer is about.
Prayer
Abba Father, I want to experience life with you
