Spiritual Practices: Breath Prayer
Overview
Paul opens his letter to Timothy by reminding Timothy of his (Paul's) background. He recalls being a blasphemer and persecutor of the church. He calls himself the chief of sinners. He also recalls God's mercy and grace. None of this was new to Timothy. At this point, Timothy had known Paul for several years. They had traveled together, spent time together, Paul even called Timothy his son in the faith. So Timothy knew all of this about Paul already. Yet, Paul reminds Timothy of God's mercy and grace.
In the same way that Paul reminded Timothy of his personal story of mercy and grace, we need to remember God's mercy and grace on us and on others. Remembering his mercy and grace gives us confidence, builds our faith, and leads us to praise and thanksgiving. That is what this breath prayer is about.
Prayer
Abba Father, thank you for your mercy
