- We/us - Discover what Paul says about our new perspectives as new creations in Christ Jesus
Spiritual Practices: Breath prayer
Overview
In 2 Corinthians 5:17, Paul tells us that if we are in Christ, we are a new creation. This doesn't mean we are just a little different, it means we are completely new. Paul goes on to say that the old things are passed away and all things have become new. We have new perspectives, new values (some of which he describes in the previous verses), and most importantly, we have a new identity. We are no longer primarily identified by our temptations, our sins, our struggles, or even our characteristics. These things no longer define us. Instead, we are new creations and our identity is found in our relationship with God. Everything else has passed away, all things are become new.
Unfortunately, while this takes place when we put our hope, faith, and trust in Jesus, we don't always live it out. We often continue to struggle with the same things that we struggled with before. We need to start living, with God's help, in our new identity, our new creation, instead of our old one. That is what this breath prayer is about.
Prayer
Abba Father, make me a new creation.
