Exploring the Text: Life in the early church
As the church began to grow after the day of Pentecost, it began to organize itself around particular activities. In verse 42 we see these priorities listed. They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching, to fellowship with one another, to eating together, and to praying together. They shared life together and helped meet each others needs. They met together in the temple and they ate together in each others homes. They praised God and God gave them favor with everyone around.
As we reflect on this picture of life in the early church, think about how our current life in the church lines up with this picture. Are we doing the same things? Do we have the same priorities? What would we need to change for our church experience to look more like this pattern?
