Exploring the Text: God's forgiveness
This event is our first introduction to Saul who will later become Paul. Paul will later become one of the greatest missionaries and leaders of the early church, but when we meet him the first time, he is facilitating the stoning of Stephen.
This story is a great example of forgiveness and redemption. The obvious example is Stephen asking God to forgive those who are stoning him. The other example is Saul himself. Here he is facilitating the stoning of Stephen. Later he will become the primary persecutor of the church. But these things do not define him or his destiny. He will be forgiven, redeemed, and used by God in powerful ways. We cannot out sin God's forgiveness. No matter what you have done, no matter what you may do, God's forgiveness and redemption covers it all.
