Exploring the Text: Christian Living 101

Here is more of “Christian Living 101”. Paul, once again gives us basic principles to live by. They are:

  • Walking in wisdom. This comes from a reverent fear and acknowledgement  of the Lord.
  • Using our time wisely, knowing that the ways of the world are getting worse. Our time should not be wasted.
  • Knowing the will of the Lord. This entails seeking God for His will and then living in it.
  • Not being drunk with alcohol. Paul draws a comparison between alcohol and being filled with the Spirit. We are to be led by the Holy Spirit and not the forces of this world.
  • Speaking in psalms, hymns etc. This deals with how we communicate with one another. It doesn’t necessarily mean that we are to walk around singing as though we are actors in a musical, but rather that what we say is positive rather than negative. We are to speak words of encouragement.
  • Giving thanks. We are to stay away from negative thoughts. Let’s praise God for the good things, rather than complaining about the difficult things. We can find good in every situation.

Sometimes we may find it difficult to follow all of these instructions, however we should strive to accomplish them all on a regular basis. With the Lord's help, we can follow Him and be effective witnesses for Christ in this lost world.
