Around me people were praying, and some stretched out their arms in the form of a cross, imploring mercy from Heaven.
The sound of the explosions and the crumbling houses cannot be imagined ... The new bombardment lasted thirty-five minutes, sufficient to transform the town into an enormous furnace.
Not even the people who went into the refuges were saved; nor the sick and wounded in the hospitals.
When the bombing was over, the people left their shelters. I saw no one crying. Stupor was written on all their faces.
When it grew dark the flames of Guernika were reaching to the sky, and the clouds took on the color of blood, and our faces too shone with the color of blood.

There is a Balm in Gilead
There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole.
There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul.
Sometimes I feel discouraged,
and think my work's in vain,
But then the Holy Spirit revives my soul again.
Don't ever feel discouraged,
For Jesus is your friend,
And if you lack for knowledge,
He'll not refuse to lend.
If you cannot preach like Peter,
If you cannot pray like Paul,
You can tell the love of Jesus
And say, "He died for all."
