Gotta Serve Somebody
You may be and ambassador to England of France, You may like to gamble, you might like to dance. You may be the heavyweight champion of the world. You might be a socialite with a long string of pearls. But you’re gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed, You’re gonna have to serve somebody. Well it may be the devil or it may be the Lord, But you’re gonna have to serve somebody…. Might like to wear cotton, you might like to wear silk. Might like to drink whiskey, might like to drink milk. You might like to eat caviar, you might like to eat bread. You might be sleeping on the floor, sleeping in a king-sized bed. But you’re gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed, You’re gonna have to serve somebody. Well it may be the devil or it may be the Lord, But you’re gonna have to serve somebody…. Bob Dylan |

Spiritual Practices: Breath Prayer
Overview
Joshua has led the people of Israel into the promised land. They have fought many battles and had secured their home. Now, Joshua's time as leader is coming to a close. He gathers the people together the way Moses did before he died, and delivered his last address to the people. He challenged the people to choose whether they will serve God or not. He presents them with three options, they can serve their God who brought them out of Egypt, through the wilderness, and had kept his promise to give them the land they now possessed, they could choose to serve the god's of Egypt who had enslaved them, or the gods of the Canaanites who they had just defeated.
We have the same choice that Joshua presented to the people of Israel. We can serve God who keeps his promises and delivers, heals, and restores us, we can serve the things that kept, or keep, us bound up, or we can serve the things that have been proven powerless to heal and restore. Just like with the people of Israel, the choice is clear. We just need to declare our intention to follow God alone. That is what this breath prayer is about.
Prayer
Almighty God, I choose you alone
