Ceremony for Completing a Poetry Reading
(Excerpt)
This is a give-away poem
You have come gathering
You have made a circle with me…
Within this basket is something
You have been looking for
all of your life
Come take it
Take as much as you want
I give you seeds of a new way…
Come
this is a give-away poem
I cannot go home
until you have taken everything
and the basket which held it
When my hands are empty
I will be full

Spiritual Practices: Imagining the Text
Sometimes passages in the Bible need to be observed and absorbed with awe and wonder instead of analyzed, dissected, and categorized. This is one of those passages. Read the passage over in its entirety a few times. As you do, imagine that you are a participant in the scene. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Read the passage over in its entirety a few times. As you do, imagine that you are a participant in the scene. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
- Imagine you are Jairus and it is your son or daughter dying. What would you do, what lengths would you go to to save their life? How would you feel when Jesus is interrupted on his way to your house by the woman? What would you think when you heard the news that your child had died? What would your emotional rollercoaster be like if you lived out this story?
- Imagine that you are the woman with the issue of blood. How desperate would you be for healing after suffering for 12 years? What would you be willing to do to find relief? Image how you would feel when you saw the crowd gathered around just and separating you and him. What would you do? How would you feel when you got through the crowd, touched Jesus, and were healed? What would you think when Jesus stopped and started looking for you? How would you feel standing in front of the crowd with Jesus declaring that your faith has made you whole?
