Living Out the Text: Doing what Jesus did
In the last part of chapter 9, we see a summary of Jesus' ministry. Matthew says that Jesus went about in all their cities and villages, proclaimed the good news about the kingdom of God, and healed every disease and affliction. In chapter 10, Jesus sent out the 12 apostles. He instructed them to continue going to the cities of Israel, to proclaim the kingdom of God, and to heal and cast out demons. Jesus instructed them to continue doing the same things he had already been doing. Again, after his resurrection, Jesus is going to do the same thing. In John 20:21, Jesus tells his disciples that he is sending them out the same way the Father sent him.
Jesus gives us the same charge today. He is sending us the way the Father sent him. He is sending us to proclaim the good news about the kingdom of God the way he did. He is sending us to heal and restore the way he did. How are we doing following Jesus' example and doing what he did?

Prayer Response
Lord Jesus Christ, Lord of the harvest, send out laborers into your harvest field, and let it start with me.
