Passage Introduction
This is the beginning of Psalm 119, David's epic poem about the Word of God. Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible. It is an acrostic poem with each stanza beginning with the next letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This stanza begins with Aleph, the first letter in the Hebrew alphabet. In our Bibles each stanza is broken into 8 verses and each verse is a statement about the Word of God. David refers to God's word as his statutes, his commandments, his testimonies, his righteous rules, and other things but they are all referring back to the Word of God. This epic acrostic poem is both a celebration of God's Word and an encouragement for us to follow it.
