for Psalm 29

Spiritual Practices: Visio Divina

Visio Divina, or sacred seeing, is a type of prayer in which we allow our hearts and imaginations to enter into an image or a scene in silence to see what God might have to say to us. You can find out more about Visio Divina here. Spend some time prayerfully reflecting on the images below and listen to what God might say to you through them.

In mystery and grandeur
we see the face of God
in earthiness and the ordinary
we know the love of Christ.

In heights and depths
and life and death:
the spirit of God
is moving among us.

Let us praise God.
I will light a light
in the name of God
who lit the world
and breathed the breath of life into me.

I will light a light
in the name of the Son
who saved the world
and stretched out his hand to me.

I will light a light
in the name of the Spirit
who encompasses the world
and blesses my soul with yearning.

We will light three lights
for the trinity of love:
God above us,
God beside us,
God beneath us:
the beginning,
the end,
the everlasting one.

Spiritual Practices: Breath Prayer

Overview
This psalm is a celebration of the voice of God. In verses five through nine, the psalmist poetically describes the voice of God as breaking barriers, bringing joy, shaking up the world, and bringing life. When God speaks into our lives, things happen. We need to hear God's voice speak. That is what this breath prayer is about.
