We Is Still Friends, Lord (Psalm 86)
Put your ear next to me, Lord,
I just want you to hear me and talk to me
‘Cause I ain’t got much.
Just remember I try to be like you
You are my man
So I ask for your help.
Make me happy when I’m mixed up inside.
We know you don’t hold nothing against us
And you listen and hear us when we talk to you
And don’t push us away.
So when we got troubles
We can call up you.
Help us remember you is only one
And everybody was made by you
And had sure better know it
And you are the only God.
Show me the right side of the street to walk on
So I can walk with you and even trust you
And not be afraid to say it
‘Cause your love is just great.
When it seems like everybody is against me
And nothing goes right
And people is out to get me
Help me to know we is still friends
And that your love is here.
That’s what helps me have heart.
So “give me some skin” Lord,
Then everybody will know where we stand.

It focuses on communing with God in Scripture rather than simply studying Scripture for intellectual understanding. Click here for more information on how to practice Lectio Divina. Exploring the Text: Taste and see
As parents, my wife and I try to expose our children to a variety of foods. Our policy is that they need to try new things before saying “I don’t like that.” One of my daughters holds to that policy and the other one has a preference on chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese.
This verse tells us the taste of the Lord. Of course, this is not a literal “taste”, but rather, we are challenged to seek the Lord. God delights in a people who will search after Him. Study God’s Word to find out more about him. Pray and ask God for His will in your life. Do not be afraid to ask God questions. This is part of finding out who he really is. Be ready to accept His answers and to live by faith for Him. These are big challenges, but Jesus says that if we seek we shall find him (Matthew 7:7).
The Psalmist is confident that those that “taste” will be satisfied. He says that we will see that the Lord is good. The Lord is so awesome to those that follow Him that the Scripture says that we are blessed by having our refuge in Him.
My daughter, who is willing to try different foods, has experienced a variety of seafood, wild game, and foods from Mexico, China, and Trinidad. She has had lots of experiences and has enjoyed the vast majority of them. She is willing to try anything at least once. What an exciting adventure her pallet has been on.
I encourage you today to “taste” the Lord. I assure you that it is quite the adventure, and one that is guaranteed to be good.
