Spiritual Practices: Sing praise
Overview
In Psalm 98, the psalmist encourages us to sing a new song to the Lord (verse 1) and to break forth into joyful song (verse 4). Singing is a way of celebrating and rejoicing in the goodness of God. Singing lifts our spirits, enlivens our hearts, and raises our sights beyond our problems so we can see the goodness of God again. We sing because in singing of God's goodness, it sets us free.
Practice
Make some time this week to sing. If you want to, get alone by yourself, or get together with a few others to sing with. Play some of your favorite music and sing along with it. If you are not sure what to play, try using the music for worship and reflection that is linked on this weeks page. Regardless of whether you are alone or with someone else or what music you are using, sing and make a joyful noise before God and see what a difference in makes in your day.
